July 4th Weekend

Celebrating independence from Great Britain only to become what we despised. I wasn't there and you weren't there. Anyhow. It is going to be a busy weekend in the New Braunfels/Canyon lake area. I would book your hotel room last week. The Guadalupe and Comal will be packed so tight that you will not be able to see the water. Just a sea of skin. Of course I am a proponent of all activities in the area. Schlitterbahn and floating the river, taking the boat out on the lake. All good fun. When thousands of others come together it can be very miserable. If you don't like crowds, I would come during non-holiday weekdays to fully enjoy what the area has to offer. Coming on a holiday weekend may turn you off to what the area has to offer. As I like to do, I  want to point out another great view/drive. Eagle Peak Ranch(North Canyon Lake). If you can find it, you are welcome to its view. There are many lots for sale and already established homes of which a minimum of 2,000 sqft seems to be the norm.

River Acres Park

Another beautiful day in New Braunfels,Tx. I headed out around lunch time and went down to River Acres Park, a ritual I do about two times a week.  It is an easy going park and for the most part stays clean minus the holdiay festivities where inconsiderate people have no concept of garbage cans. For the first 45 minutes I had to pick up cans that mostly came from up river. To all would be visitors. I live here and I wish you would be considerate and have ice chest that lock and dispose of your empties when you exit the river. I wouldn't dump trash in your front yard, so don't dump it in mine. For all the locals, shame on you if you can't have a little bit of pride for this section of Texas that is above par in natural beauty.  Aside from that, I tied my tube up to a rock and just relaxed with the sun on my face. Plenty of fish at a decent size. I expect the river to rise Thursday or so from the release from Canyon Lake for Memorial Day weekend.

A few good drives

Okay, so its been awhile since I've posted. Busy with business. Anyhow. I found my camera. Of course you didn't know it was lost....but. I wanted to share a few views that are pleasing to the mind. Just found it so you will have to wait. If you want to check them out for yourself , you have: Allen park picnic area take 46 from New Braunfels, turn right on S Cranes Mills road and you will merge on to FM 3159.  It will be on your right. You get a great view of Smithson Valley.  Next on our list in no particular order is Bear Creek Trail. Take 46 out of New Braunfels, turn right on FM 2722 and about 2 1/2 miles down it will be on your right. This drive provides a view of the hills and local flora and fauna as well as a low water crossing at Bear Creek. Lastly, we have "devil's backbone". From San Marcos take ranch road 12 and it will become RM 32. There will be a picnic area on your right. I come here often. Grab a Sweet Leaf at Sac n Pac and just enjoy the view. Searched an found an old picture I had taken of a view from "Devil's Backbone". Enjoy.
